Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco -a state in México known for its eclectic array of artists and craftsmen-, one could say she was destined to become the recognized designer she is today.

The work of Elena Damy is constantly growing in demand; inside and outside of the world of floral design. While living in Paris, she discovered a passion for flowers as well as a true talent for sculptural floral design. This was the beginning of her journey to becoming one of premier floral designers both in México and far beyond its borders. Determined to be the best, Elena has studied design in Paris, London, Frankfurt, New York and Los Angeles under watchful eyes of some of the world's best designers.

My Sister’s Baby Shower

Once in a while I have the chance to be more than a guest at my family’s events… and it’s always a blast! Take a look at the Baby Shower I did for my dear sister Gaby who, as you can guess, is having a girl soon.

By the way, I want to thank my beautiful mother for her support to put all the pieces of this event together, and also to the talented cake artist Deena Fisher from Sweet Dreams, who came up with the coolest desserts (that I had to take all the way from Los Cabos to Guadalajara).

Do you like owls as a theme for a baby shower? What other ideas do you think we could have used?

Every Wedding Proposal is Special. This post is about my Very Own.

Today is Valentine’s Day, so would you like to know how my hubby proposed to me, over a decade ago?

I was upset because my boyfriend had to make a last-minute business trip, so my mom managed to drag me to Los Angeles on a pretext, then convinced me to go to Disneyland, and then to Toon Town’s Mickey’s house.

The moment I noticed my beloved long-time favorite mouse was holding a sort of Bride Minnie Mouse Ear Hat, I knew “something” was happening. Mickey graciously helped me to secure the hat on my head and, all of a sudden, my boyfriend “appeared” wearing a Sorcerer Mickey Hat, down on one bent knee, holding the engagement ring I had always dreamed of! He popped the question, I said “yes, I would”, and a big crowd of Disney staff members started cheering around us!

The fun fact is that we were 5 hours late according to the original plan Carlos and my mom developed, she forgot to bring her cell phone, and she also forgot to wear the white hat she was supposed to wear so the Disney staff could recognize who the fiancée-to-be was… but my lovely hubby worked things out with the support of many, many Disney staff members!

It was an amazing, shocking, unexpected, magical and romantic experience! Well, it’s the way wedding proposals should be, isn’t it?

How did your fiance/husband proposed to you?

I have previosly mentioned that it’s very important to work with the right people so sinergy can be created. Well, I recently had the pleasure to work in a photo shoot at Las Ventanas al Paraiso with a terrific team… and I had a blast!

Take a look at the floral designs I created for Canada’s Perfect Wedding Magazine with wonderful photos by Chris + Lynn Photographers, furniture from The Main Event, event coordination by Karla Casillas, a beautiful cake by Sweet Dreams, and stationary by Cormier Creative.

By the way, do you like more the set up we created with white and yellow flowers, or the one with different shades of pink flowers?

Teamwork… a must in a wedding!

Teamwork has been defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “work done by several associates with each doing a part but all subordinating personal prominence to the efficiency of the whole”.

When “the whole” happens to be YOUR WEDDING, you must make sure the “associates” that you choose (floral & event designer, planner, caterer, etc.) do work together on a regular basis (the more they work together, the more they know how to complement each other), so they know exactly how to collaborate in order to create the perfect wedding you have always dreamed of.

Sarai Flores and Martha Huerta from Signature Mexico are among those wonderful “associates” that we have known for so long, that they have become family for us. We have traveled together, they have seen our sons grow through the years, and -of course- TOGETHER we have made a lot of brides happy!

Does ELENA DAMY Floral & Event Design and Signature Mexico make a good team? We certainly think so, and so do our former brides. Enjoy a few of the weddings we have done together and let us know your thoughts!

Warmly,

Elena Damy + Carlos Damy.

Indoor or outdoor wedding reception in Los Cabos?

Both options are wonderful! It does make sense to have an outdoor reception if you are getting married in a beach resort, but you could also have a little piece of Los Cabos in every part of your wedding, like Viviana and Naveen did: ceremony at the Mission of San Jose del Cabo, cocktail overviewing the Sea of Cortez, and reception in a ballroom beautifully decorated. For their floral décor, we used a mix of  white flowers (Phalenopsis orchids, Dendrobium orchids, Roses, and Lisianthus) over multi-sized and multi-shaped mercury containers… and lots of candles!

When you choose to have an indoor reception, it does not matter if you get married in a warm or chilli day in Los Cabos, and you don’t have to worry about the wind blowing out your candles either.

An indoors reception will allow you and your guests to see the reception area fully decorated until all of you walk into the ballroom; in the other hand, when the reception is taking place in a public area (right next to the pool, in the beach, etc.) a lot of people can sneak peek and the “surprise factor” disappears.

Viviana and Naveen enjoyed  with their guests the colonial town of San Jose del Cabo.

QUESTION FOR OUR READERS: Would you have an outdoor reception in Los Cabos, no matter if your wedding is taking place in Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

“What color should my wedding flowers be”?

Our clients frequently ask us if we think their wedding flowers should be white. Our answer? “Choose the colors you like the most, and we’ll help you to create wonderful and unique designs for such an important event in your life”. If you have always dreamt with a colorful wedding, then a colorful wedding will be right for you; if you love how monochromatic weddings look like, then you should use the one color you love the most. So, don’t even think about current trends when it comes to choosing the color of your wedding flowers, just remember it’s YOUR wedding, so you get to create your own “trends”.

This was Dimeka’s wedding at Las Ventanas al Paraiso. We mainly used Cymbidium Orchids, Tulips, and Roses in yellow, and only a few accents in white for the ceremony.

QUESTION FOR OUR READERS: Do you think there are flowers of certain colors that should not be used for weddings?

Our Beverly Hills office is now open!

We have so many clients and friends from Southern California, that we decided to look for a strategically located office where we could comfortably meet with them… and we found the perfect spot in Beverly Hills!

What a treat! We will get to spend more quality time with our lovely brides in their hometown before they say “I do” in Los Cabos and, at the same time, we will be able to  enjoy -once a month- a little of the glamorous life that Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Newport Beach, and La Jolla can offer.

We look forward to welcoming you at our new office!

Wedding Video or Film: Definitely a Must

If according to the adage “a picture is worth a thousand words”, then a video or a film is worth millions. This means you certainly need to get a Photographer for your wedding day, but you should also have a Videographer… or even better, a Cinematographer!

Do we know a good team of Wedding Cinematographers? Absolutely: Elysium Productions. We LOVE their work and we witnessed how they truly created a unique and ever lasting memory for Christie & Andrew, a wonderful couple from New York City that last year had a magical wedding at One & Only Palmilla: beautiful couple, beautiful family, beautiful venue… and beautiful floral décor (LOL… well, that is what the bride said about our work)!

By the way, a few days ago, our dear friends Christie and Andrew returned to One & Only Palmilla to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, and we had the pleasure to have dinner with them at our favorite Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar in Los Cabos.

We will tell you more about it in our next post… in the meantime, enjoy a short Elysium Productions‘ film of Christie & Andrew’s wedding!
